When you receive the DataHub, the critical first step is to get it connected to an internet source and update the firmware, as we have made several important updates, including integration with the Iridium GO! exec, Iridium GO! and PredictMail. Once you have updated the firmware, then you can set up the GPS tracking, PredictMail and configure the device for satellite connections like the Iridium Go! exec and Iridium GO.

Click HERE to see a video walkthrough of setting up the DataHub, or follow the steps below.

There are 4 Ways to connect your DataHub to the internet:

1. Via Ethernet Cable

2. Via Mobile charging cable (iOS)

3. Via Mobile charging cable (Android)

4. Via Wi-Fi

  • Once the DataHub has an internet connection, click here for instructions on how to update your DataHub firmware.

CONNECTING YOUR DATAHUB TO THE INTERNET:

  1. Via Ethernet Cable.

Run an Ethernet cable from your vessel's Wi-Fi router LAN port to the port labelled WAN on the DataHub. The DataHub should automatically connect to the internet.

To check the DataHub as an internet connection:

a)Connect your computer or mobile device to the DataHub Wi-Fi network. It will look like PW-Hub-XXXX in the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device

b) Open a Chrome or Safari browser and type 10.10.10.1 in the URL bar

c) Login with username admin and password admin

d) Click on the Main Menu/ Service List > Settings >Internet Status, and the interface WAN box should be GREEN. It may take up to 2 minutes to turn Green, so be patient.

2. Via Mobile charging cable (iOS)

Use your device's USB charging cable, connect your iPhone/ iPad to the USB port on the DataHub. Once connected, iOS will prompt you whether the DataHub should be trusted or not > Select Trust.

Turn your Hotspot on. On the iOS device, navigate to Settings > Personal Hotspot and enable it as depicted below.

CONFIGURE GPS SOURCE AND GPS TRACKING:

  1. Connect GPS data

    (a) We recommend using the GPS data from your boat's NMEA 2000 (N2K) instrumentation system, as the GPS antenna on your instrumentation system will be on deck and therefore have a clear view of the GPS satellites for reliability and accuracy. Please plug the N2K cable into your instruments and the N2K socket on the back of DataHub.

    (b) If you do not have an NMEA 2000 (N2K) onboard, you can use the supplied GPS black antenna. Please note when first connecting the GPS black antenna, it can take up to one hour to first receive a GPS fix, as the unit needs to download the GPS ephemeris data to find the GPS satellites. In comparison a phone GPS device uses Wifi and internet to find a GPS fix quickly, but unfortunately the Datahub GPS does not have this functionality. However subsequent GPS fixes should be quick if the GPS Antenna is working correctly.

  2. Plug the DataHub into AC/DC power supply with the power cord provided, or you can directly power from the vessel’s house battery bank (Instructions in the Datahub manual here; see page 3. You will notice a blue status LED on the top of the unit illuminates when the unit is correctly powered on.

  3. After a few minutes of the DataHub being ON, it will emit a Wi-Fi signal. Connect your computer or mobile device to the DataHub Wi-Fi network. It will look like this in the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device PW-Hub-XXXX.

  4. Open a Web browser tab (such as Chrome Or Safari) and enter 10.10.10.1 - this will open the PW-HUB, which is the control centre of the DataHub. This can be done on both desktop and mobile - on an iOS device, you can also save this as a saved Home Screen Link, so you can quickly access it from your home screen. See how here.

  5. Log in using admin as the username and admin as the password.

6. To Configure the GPS Feed > From the main Menu/ Settings > Select > NMEA > Source > Select Your GPS Source.

  • If you are using the black GPS antenna provided > Select 'Built-in GPS'

  • If you are using your boat NMEA > select the correct feed > Then select Save & Apply

7. Connecting the DataHub to an Internet connection

You can connect the DataHub to land-based Wi-Fi, your cellular connection, Iridium Satellite system ( eg Iridium GO! exec or Iridium GO ), or Starlink.
