How to connect a DataHub to the Internet using an Android device via USB tethering charging cable

An easy way to connect your DataHub to the Internet is by using your Android's charging cable and plugging it into the USB socket on the DataHub, then activating a hotspot.

Connect your Android device using the USB charging cable

  • Plug your Android device into the USB charging cable.

  • Plug the USB charging end into the USB port on the DataHub, shown above.

Enable USB Internet Hot Spot tethering from your Android

  • Navigate to your device's Settings menu.

  • Tap Network & Internet or Connections.

  • Tap Mobile Hotspot & Tethering.

  • Tap to enable Mobile Hotspot and USB Tethering.

    If you are unable to enable USB Tethering, check the USB cable is fully plugged in, you may need to remove or adjust the device's case.

  • Please keep your Android device open on this Settings page while you complete the next step.

Important Note: The Android device used to provide a USB tether for the Internet with the DataHub cannot be the same device you use to log in to the DataHub and check it in the next step.

Check that the DataHub has an Internet Connection

  • Connect to the DataHub via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable, then open a Chrome or Safari browser and type 10.10.10.1 in the URL bar.

  • Log in with the default username admin and password admin.

  • If your Android device is providing a USB tether to the Internet, the WAN Interface status Android USB Tether will be green and show the Status: Online.

  • To see this on a DataHub with older firmware, on the left menu, click Settings and on the top menu, click Internet Status.

Important Note: On older firmware, the Android USB Tether status may take up to 2 minutes to update and turn green.


Congratulations! Your DataHub is now connected to the Internet.

If you are setting up the DataHub, please return to Step 1 and continue to Update the DataHub Firmware.

Quick Tips

"No USB device connected" I can't enable USB Tethering

Some Android devices have USB-C ports which may allow you to charge the device in their protective case just fine but will not allow you to insert the USB-C cable fully enough to provide a USB Internet Tether.

Please try removing the device's protective case and pushing in the USB-C connector.

The USB Tethering setting was disabled automatically

Some Android touchscreens are sensitive. The USB tethering setting may slide back to off when you lift your finger.

Please ignore any errors or accidental disabling of the setting and enable the USB Tethering setting again.

Until you have connected the DataHub to the Internet, updated the Firmware and then re-connected to your home or another high-speed Wi-Fi, please keep the Mobile Hotspot settings page open on your device so it's easy for your to see if it has been disabled.

Attention - The connected device is unable to access data on this device

Some Android devices may present an error after the USB Tethering setting is enabled for 5-10 seconds because they detect a file system on the DataHub they do not expect.

Please ignore any errors or accidental disabling of the setting and enable the USB Tethering setting again.

Until you have connected the DataHub to the Internet, updated the Firmware and then re-connected to your home or another high-speed Wi-Fi, please keep the Mobile Hotspot settings page open on your device so it's easy for your to see if it has been disabled.

Android USB Tether is not showing as enabled in the DataHub after two minutes

If you navigated away from the Mobile Hotspot and Tethering page on your phone after enabling USB tethering, please check if the USB Tethering setting is still enabled. It may have automatically been disabled for one of the reasons mentioned above.
