You can also now view the GMDSS text forecast visually on all our weather maps. The text forecasts are analysed in the PredictWind cloud, and then each weather system, front and warning region is plotted accurately on the map, giving you a world-first, global view of the GMDSS forecast. GMDSS marine weather information is a retransmission of The Global Ocean Observing System. National Meteorological Services initially supplies the forecasts within the framework of the WMO Marine Broadcast System for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.

Downloading the GMDSS and getting used to the graphical output is essential before departure. This is written by a meteorologist advising of adverse weather conditions. The file size is small at approximately 3kB; it would be prudent to download it at least every 12 hours.

Important Note: Graphical GMDSS forecasts are part of the Standard & Professional subscriptions.

To receive a GMDSS forecast

  • Move your start point (green) and your destination point (red) to your desired locations. When you change your route, the App automatically selects the relevant GMDSS areas.

  • Select GMDSS Forecasts from the left menu.

  • You can also manually select additional areas by clicking on the GMDSS areas. Darker shading shows that an area has been chosen.

  • Click the Download button from the left menu.

  • Select the GMDSS Forecast (Free) checkbox.

  • Select the GMDSS Graphical Forecast checkbox.

Important Note: Please ensure you have downloaded all other weather data, i.e. GRIB files, etc., so the time-slider can show all current weather data, including GMDSS data.

  • Click Next & Download All.

  • Click on the Map tab.

  • The GMDSS forecast will be shown in the first 24 hours of the time-slider if ALL other weather data, such as GRIB files, have been downloaded.
