You can import a polar file using the 'Import Polar' feature on the Advanced Polar section of the Weather Routing Preferences.

  • When on the Weather Routing Page of the Forecast Website, Click Routing Preferences:

  • Next, Click on the Advanced Boat Type section:

  • Click the 'Import Polar' Button to import your '.txt' or '.pol' polar file.

'.txt' format

The PredictWind polar format must have a '.txt' file extension, or the import will not work. There are also a few other format rules that the file must follow, or the import will be rejected:

'.pol' format

The '.pol' format is a table format of TWS's across the top row and TWD's down the first column. See an example below:

4 8 12 16 20 25 30

36 2.85 5.34 6.54 7.03 7.23 7.28 7.15

40 3.23 5.88 7.02 7.48 7.68 7.79 7.77

45 3.63 6.39 7.48 7.89 8.11 8.20 8.24

60 4.73 7.48 8.34 8.69 8.92 9.10 9.20

75 5.15 7.87 8.85 9.21 9.42 9.65 9.81

90 5.17 7.95 9.01 9.57 9.83 10.12 10.35

120 4.45 7.50 8.87 9.73 10.43 10.96 11.42

135 3.63 6.66 8.34 9.32 10.16 11.18 12.12

165 2.33 4.70 6.72 8.16 9.11 10.09 11.17

180 2.12 4.31 6.27 7.78 8.80 9.74 10.69

  • The first cell of the table should be blank.

  • Wind speeds must be increasing across the first row from left to right.

  • TWDs must be increasing down the first column.

  • All table body cells must have values.
