When using the PredictWind App and Website the forecast runs out to 7 days for the PWG, PWE and UKMO models, and out to 10 days, using the ECMWF, SPIRE & GFS models.

Forecast accuracy beyond 7 days is challenging for any model, but by comparing these 3 top long-range forecast models, you can get an indication of the accuracy of the 10-day forecast.

When planning ahead for the following weekend, a 7-day forecast is often not long enough. A 10-day forecast along with the PredictWind multi-model approach gives you the confidence to make the right decisions.

How to view the 10-day forecast:

  • Daily Briefing
Using our smart algorithm, we “crunch the data” to give you the forecast in an easy-to-understand text forecast.

  • Forecast Tables
Easily compare the ECMWF, SPIRE & GFS models, side by side, to locate any uncertainty in the forecast.

  • Forecast Graphs
View the 10-day forecast and compare variables in a clear and concise visual format with Graphs.

  • Forecast Maps
View the bigger picture to further understand the situation and the certainty of the forecast.

How to view the long-range ECMWF ensemble model:

The ECMWF ensemble model can only be viewed when using the weather routing and departure planning tools in the PredictWind App and Forecast website. The routing uses the global ECMWF/SPIRE/GFS/PWG/PWE model data out to 10 days, then uses the ECMWF ensemble from 10 days to 30 days. The UKMO forecasts only go out to 7 days, we use the ECMWF forecast from 7 days to 10 days before switching to the ensemble member.

For the Ensemble model, we download all 101 members of the ECMWF ensemble and use AI to match the ensemble member that most closely matches the 10 day ECMWF forecast, the member is then used for the 10-30 day forecast. Every 12 hours we run this AI matching process to update to the closest ensemble member. If you are using the routing on the Website, or the PredictWind App, you will see the ECMWF Ensemble data load in the Map view after 10 days. The Weather Router uses the ECMWF Ensemble data to complete the route for routes longer than 10 days.
