Does the DataHub require an Internet connection for the Anchor Alert App to work?

The DataHub does not require an Internet connection to use the Anchor Alert App while you are ON the boat. Please ensure your phone is connected to DataHub Wi-Fi to receive alerts.

While OFF the boat, to receive updates, the DataHub requires either a GO exec, Starlink or 4G Router (e.g. Peplink) internet connection for sending alerts and N2K updates to your phone.

What do I need for the Anchor Alert App to work?

To start an Anchor Alert Pro session, you'll need:

  • A cell phone or tablet.

  • The Anchor Alert App with a Pro subscription. This can be purchased in-app.

  • A PredictWind Account. You can create one in-app or here.

  • A PredictWind DataHub connected to your boat's NMEA2000 / N2K network.

  • Your boat's instruments are connected to the N2K network and powered on, with GPS, Wind, and Depth (if you have them).

  • For remote monitoring, the DataHub requires an Internet connection, i.e. Starlink, high-speed Wi-Fi, cellular or Iridium GO exec.

  • DataHub Firmware version 4.28 or later.

When I start an Anchor Alert session on my iPad or iPhone, is there a way to view it on another iPad or iPhone?

No. The Anchor Alert app can only be started and managed from one device at a time. The device that starts an alert session sets the parameters, shows the drag perimeter on the Anchor Map, can edit sessions and will receive alerts from the DataHub if triggered.

If you want to use another device later to manage a new alert session, first cancel the existing alert session on your original device and then start a new alert session on another.

You can have two devices logged into the same PredictWind Forecast Account, so you both can use the app on either device to start and manage a sessions, however the device which starts the session will be the only device which can receive alerts and manage or cancel the session.

On another device, at any time, you can connect to the boat's N2K data feed and view it in the app.

How do I see the history of where the boat has been swinging, or drifted while at Anchor?

By default, the Anchor Map displays a yellow dot every 5 minutes for the boat's position while at anchor. Over time, these breadcrumbs will build up, allowing you to see where the boat has swung or drifted while it is at anchor.

To increase the frequency of breadcrumbs and improve the detail of the anchor history, open the app Settings > Boat History Frequency and choose a lower setting. The minimum setting is 30s. Note, if you have turned off your boat instruments and the DataHub does not have a GPS it will not add breadcrumbs to the Anchor Map.

Important Note: Breadcrumbs are only recorded while the app is open in the foreground. It does not need to be opened on the Anchor Map page. Unfortunately, due to iOS restrictions, we cannot record GPS positions while the app is in the background.

Why does the Anchor Map orientation rotate when I zoom out while running an alert session?

When you're zoomed in while setting the Anchor Heading, the Anchor Alert app reads the heading from your boat GPS and orients the map to show the boat heading pointing towards the top of the Anchor Map page. This is the most intuitive view to help you set the anchor heading accurately, and it avoids rotating your phone upside down or 90°.

When zoomed out, Apple's iOS restrictions do not permit the app to use the boat heading to orient the map any longer, forcing the Anchor Map to reorient North. This means you may find the Anchor Map page rotates when you zoom in and out.

Though not ideal that it changes, we feel this is the best compromise we can make for displaying the boat on the anchor map to make setting up and alert session intuitive, whilst reflecting what you'd expect when zoomed out to see the bigger picture, including familiar landmasses.
