Anchor Alert App Pro - why do I lose my alert session every time I close the app?

Why your Anchor Alert App appears to stop monitoring when you're off the boat, and how to keep Anchor Alert sessions live when you're not using the app or your phone.

If you start the Anchor Alert App connected to the DataHub, and the Anchor Alert process starts on the DataHub, it will continue to run regardless of the app state. If your boat drifts or triggers an alert, you will receive it provided your mobile device has internet.

If the Anchor Alert App on your iPhone/iPad stops monitoring, or quits the active alert session, this will be either because the GPS in the phone is not available to the app, or you have force closed the app.

1. Force Closing the Anchor Alert App

If the App is losing the active session, you might be force-closing the App instead of dropping it into the background.

To keep the Anchor Alert App pro session running on your phone/iPad, please press the home button or swipe up to drop the App into the background. This will maintain the session for when you next open the App.

If you drag up on the bottom of the middle of the screen, and then swipe up, this will force close the App and you will lose the active alert session.

2. iOS Location Set to Never / Ask Next Time or When I share / When I use the App

For the Anchor App to maintain an active session in the background, the iOS App's Location permission must be set to Always. This is necessary to keep the app alive in the background of your phone. PredictWind does not store or track your phone's position.

To check this:

  1. Open your iOS device Settings > Apps > Anchor Alert

  2. Set Location to Always.

  3. Check Local Network, Background App Refresh and Mobile Data are also enabled.

  4. Tap the back arrow.
