Option 1: DataHub Pro LTE — US$10/month
For most customers, this is the plan to choose.
The DataHub Pro has a 4G/LTE cellular modem and comes with a T-Mobile SIM already installed. Activate the US$10/month plan and your DataHub Pro can automatically connect to T-Mobile and partner 4G/LTE networks in more than 180 regions worldwide. Think of it like having a cellular connection built into your DataHub Pro.
When 4G/LTE coverage is available, it keeps important PredictWind services connected, including:
GPS Tracking
AI Polars
Anchor Alert and Monitoring
NMEA 2000 data updates for supported PredictWind services
DataHub firmware updates
This means you don't need to hotspot your phone or keep your main Starlink connection running just to send this DataHub data.
How far offshore will 4G/LTE work?
There isn't a fixed distance. 4G/LTE coverage depends on the cellular network where you're sailing, including:
Distance from cellular towers
Tower location and height
Terrain
Network coverage
Your antenna installation
You may continue receiving 4G/LTE coverage some distance offshore around populated coastlines, but 4G/LTE should not be considered an offshore satellite connection.
Does the DataHub Pro support 5G?
No. The built-in cellular modem in the DataHub Pro is a 4G/LTE modem. It does not support 5G cellular.
This can be confusing because you'll often see 5G displayed on your phone, and the DataHub Pro also supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are different technologies.
4G vs 5G — what's the difference?
4G and 5G are different generations of cellular/mobile networks.
4G/LTE is the widely available mobile network used around the world by phones, tablets and other connected devices.
5G is a newer cellular technology that can provide higher speeds and greater network capacity where 5G coverage is available.
For the DataHub Pro, 5G speeds aren't required for what the built-in T-Mobile connection is designed to do. Services such as GPS Tracking, AI Polars, Anchor Alert and Monitoring use relatively small amounts of data and work well over 4G/LTE.
What happens if my phone says 5G?
That's completely normal. Your phone might show 5G while the DataHub Pro connects to 4G/LTE in the same location. The DataHub Pro will look for a compatible 4G/LTE network through T-Mobile or its roaming partners.
What if an area only has 5G?
The DataHub Pro's built-in modem cannot connect directly to a 5G-only cellular network. However, mobile networks commonly operate 4G/LTE alongside their 5G networks. If compatible 4G/LTE coverage is available, the DataHub Pro can use it.
Can I connect the DataHub Pro to my own 5G router?
Yes. The 4G limitation only applies to the built-in cellular modem. If you have a separate 5G cellular router, mobile hotspot or other internet connection onboard, the DataHub Pro can use that internet connection.
For example:
Built-in T-Mobile SIM → 4G/LTE only
External 5G router → Can provide 5G internet to the DataHub Pro
Starlink → Can provide high-speed internet to the DataHub Pro
So the DataHub Pro not having a built-in 5G modem doesn't stop you from using a separate 5G internet connection onboard.
Is 5 GHz Wi-Fi the same as 5G?
No. This is an easy one to confuse. The DataHub Pro supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi, but this does not mean it supports 5G cellular.

Option 2: 4G/LTE + Starlink Direct to Cell — US$15/month
For customers cruising in the continental United States, there is another connectivity option: Starlink Direct to Cell (DTC).
The US$15/month plan includes the same T-Mobile/partner 4G/LTE coverage as the US$10/month plan. The difference is that when terrestrial 4G/LTE coverage is unavailable, the DataHub Pro can use T-Mobile T-Satellite powered by Starlink Direct to Cell where the service is available. Think of DTC as an additional backup connection for cellular black spots.
A simple example
You're cruising along the US coastline.
You have 4G/LTE coverage: The DataHub Pro uses the normal cellular network.
You sail into a cellular black spot: Terrestrial 4G/LTE disappears.
You have the DTC plan and required antenna: The DataHub Pro can use Starlink Direct to Cell where coverage is available.
4G/LTE coverage returns: The DataHub Pro returns to normal 4G/LTE connectivity.
Starlink DTC is designed to provide connectivity up to approximately 12 nautical miles offshore from the US mainland, subject to network availability and coverage.
An external antenna is required for Direct to Cell
To use Starlink Direct to Cell, you need a suitable external cellular/DTC antenna connected to your DataHub Pro. PredictWind offers a compatible external antenna for this purpose.
The external antenna isn't only useful for Direct to Cell.
The antenna can also improve normal 4G/LTE reception
A correctly installed external antenna can also improve your DataHub Pro's ability to receive normal 4G/LTE signals. This can be useful when:
You're further from a cellular tower
The cellular signal is weak
Your DataHub Pro is installed below deck
The boat's structure is reducing cellular reception
It may therefore help you maintain a usable 4G/LTE connection in areas where the standard antenna has weaker reception.
Important: Direct to Cell is not the same as normal 4G/LTE
Starlink Direct to Cell has much more limited bandwidth than a normal 4G/LTE connection. Because of this, not all DataHub services behave exactly the same way when the DataHub Pro falls back to DTC.
Anchor Alert over 4G/LTE vs Direct to Cell
This is particularly important if you're using Anchor Alert.
When connected over normal 4G/LTE
You can receive:
✓ Anchor Alert warnings
✓ Remote NMEA 2000 data updates
This means information from your boat's NMEA network, such as wind speed, wind direction, depth and other supported instrument data, can continue updating remotely in the Anchor Alert app.
When connected using Starlink Direct to Cell
You will still receive:
✓ Anchor Alert warnings
However, remote NMEA data will not continue updating through DTC. So you won't see live NMEA information such as wind speed, wind direction or depth continuing to update remotely while the DataHub Pro is relying on Direct to Cell.
The important part is that your Anchor Alert warning can still get through. Once normal 4G/LTE or another suitable internet connection becomes available again, the additional data can resume updating.
Does the $10 or $15 plan give me internet onboard?
No. The PredictWind T-Mobile SIM plans are designed to provide connectivity for supported DataHub and PredictWind services.
They are not general-purpose internet plans for things like:
Browsing the web
Checking normal email
Netflix or other streaming
Social media
General internet use on phones, tablets and laptops
For normal onboard internet, continue using your existing:
Starlink
Cellular router
Mobile hotspot
Marina Wi-Fi
Other onboard internet connection
The DataHub Pro can work alongside these internet connections.
Which DataHub Pro plan should I choose?
Choose the US$10/month 4G/LTE plan if:
You want your DataHub Pro to automatically keep supported PredictWind services connected when you're within 4G/LTE cellular coverage. It's ideal for keeping services such as GPS Tracking, AI Polars, Anchor Alert and Monitoring connected while coastal cruising.
Choose the US$15/month 4G/LTE + Starlink DTC plan if:
You're cruising in the continental United States and want an additional layer of connectivity when you encounter gaps in terrestrial cellular coverage. You'll get the normal 4G/LTE service plus Starlink Direct to Cell where available. Remember that an external DTC-compatible antenna is required.
