If PredictWind is unable to calculate a Weather Route, you may see a message explaining what is preventing the route from being completed. In some cases, a route may calculate successfully but display differently from what you expect.
Below are the most common Weather Routing error messages and issues and how to resolve them.
Found no deep water connection between points within reasonable distance from start and finish (/waypoint).
If the router cannot find a route through water that meets your selected Depth Avoidance setting, it may be unable to calculate a route.
To resolve this:
Open Weather Routing >Sail Routing
Select your Weather Routing Preferences.
Check your Depth Avoidance setting and select the lowest safe setting for your boat.
Check that your start and finish waypoints are positioned well into the water and away from shallow areas or the coastline.
If necessary, add intermediate waypoints in deeper water to guide the route away from shallow areas.
Available Depth Avoidance settings include Land, 2m, 5m, 10m, 20m and 30m.
Didn't Succeed to Find a Route Until Max Motion Limits Were Ignored
Weather Routing takes your selected Comfort Settings into account when calculating a route.
If the forecast conditions along the available routes exceed your selected comfort limits, PredictWind may be unable to calculate a route using these settings.
If a route cannot be found, Weather Routing will try again while ignoring your Comfort Settings. If a route is then successfully calculated, you will see the message “Didn't Succeed to Find a Route Until Max Motion Limits Were Ignored”. This lets you know that the routes displayed are the fastest routes and do not take your selected Comfort Settings into account.
This message is displayed independently for each forecast model affected, so you may see it for some forecast models but not others.
Invalid Boat Dimensions
If you see the “Invalid Boat Dimensions” error message, your boat dimensions have not been completed under your Wave Polars.
To resolve this:
Open Weather Routing >Sail Routing
Select your Weather Routing Preferences.
Go to Wave Polars.
Enter the required boat dimensions.
Calculate your Weather Route again.
Few or Suspicious Polar Data
If you see the warning “Few or Suspicious Polar Data”, check the boat polars selected in your Weather Routing Preferences.
Review your polar data to make sure the values are complete and realistic for your boat, and check that the correct Boat Polar is selected before calculating the route again.
If you are using Custom Polars, pay particular attention to any missing or unusual values in your polar table.
Why Do I Only See One Route When Routing Using a Future Start Date?
If you set your Weather Routing departure date beyond the available forecast model runs, you may only appear to see one route on the map instead of the usual eight routes.
This is expected. For departure dates beyond the available forecast model runs, all routes use the same ensemble weather data. As a result, all eight routes calculate the same path and overlap each other on the map, making them appear as a single route. The section of the route calculated using ensemble weather data is displayed as a dotted line.
As your departure date gets closer and individual forecast model data becomes available, the routes can use the different forecast models and may show different routing options.
Still Unable to Calculate a Route?
If you continue to receive an error, check your start and finish waypoints, Depth Avoidance and Comfort Settings, then calculate the route again.
