The wave height forecast in Tables is the mean wave height from the trough to the crest of the highest third of the wave, known as the significant wave height. The significant wave height is generated by combining the primary swell and the local wind wave. As the significant wave height is an average, you may encounter a wave that is roughly double the significant wave height depending on the conditions.

The ECMWF wave model is provided at a resolution of 14kmit is considered one of the best wave models in the world.
