If your iOS or Android device is in the same device family as the approved phone or watch and runs the same operating system, it will likely work (e.g., Apple Watch 10, iPhone 16.

Android watches and Garmin watches are not supported.

No. PredictWind will not be offering Man Overboard for Android watches or Garmin watches at this stage. We developed and tested apps for these platforms, but could not achieve the consistency needed to offer a supported version.

We tested Man Overboard apps on Samsung Galaxy Watch and Google Pixel Watch devices. During testing, the watches’ battery-saving behaviour frequently disconnected Wi-Fi or interrupted communication with DataHub Pro.

This behaviour varied by watch model and software version. Operating system and firmware updates can also change how Wi-Fi communication is managed, so an approach that works on one model or software version may not work on another, or after an update.

Man Overboard relies on continuous communication between the monitored device and DataHub Pro. Interruptions can look like device separation and trigger false alerts even when the wearer is still on board.

We have not been able to maintain this communication consistently enough to offer a supported app for these watches.

We also developed and tested a Garmin app, but were not able to make it available through Garmin’s app store.

Installation required a complex manual process, known as sideloading, which we considered unsuitable for general customer use.

Garmin firmware updates can also stop a previously working app from functioning, requiring a revised version. Supporting this approach would mean providing manually installed apps for specific watch models and firmware versions, without confidence that they would continue working after future updates.

For these reasons, we are not offering a Garmin version of Man Overboard.

The Man Overboard beta is available for the tested Apple Watch, iPhone and Android phone combinations listed above.

Android phones are separate from Android watches. This decision does not affect support for the Android phone combinations listed in this article.
