When everything is working normally, there are no alarms or notifications to distract you. If a monitored device becomes disconnected from DataHub Pro, Man Overboard progressively alerts the device owner, the crew onboard, and, when the Internet is available, your chosen contacts ashore.
While everything is okay
Turn Monitoring On when you are on watch or want your device monitored.
Once monitoring is running, you can put your phone away and carry on sailing.
If your phone or watch loses its connection to DataHub Pro, you are alerted first.
This gives you time to reconnect if it is simply a Wi-Fi issue, or turn Monitoring Off if you are safely onboard and no longer need to be monitored.
If your device becomes disconnected
If your phone or watch loses its connection to DataHub Pro, you are alerted first.
This gives you time to fix something simple, such as reconnecting to DataHub Pro Wi-Fi, or turn Monitoring Off if you have finished your watch.
If the device remains disconnected
If the device is still disconnected after approximately 30 seconds, the other crew are warned. An orange pop-up warning identifies the disconnected crew member and asks everyone to confirm they are onboard. This gives the crew a short opportunity to confirm that the person is safe before a full Man Overboard alert is activated.
After approximately 60 seconds: Man Overboard
If the device remains disconnected, the full MOB Alert is activated. Crew devices receive a loud, vibrating alert and the app displays a red MOB warning identifying the missing person.
If your DataHub Pro is connected to a compatible NMEA 2000 chartplotter, the MOB alert and position is also marked on the chartplotter, allowing the crew to immediately begin their normal onboard Man Overboard procedure.
Alerting your contacts ashore to a Man Overboard event
When Internet connectivity is available to the DataHub Pro, your nominated contacts ashore are sent an SMS and email Man Overboard alert.
The alert includes:
Who triggered the MOB alert.
The date and time.
The position where the MOB was activated.
A link to view the location on a map.
This means friends, family or shore crew can quickly see what has happened and where the boat was when the alert was activated.
Responding to an MOB Alert
Tap Dismiss to silence the audible and vibrating alert on your device so you can concentrate on your part of the recovery procedure.
Hiding the alert does not cancel the MOB event.
Once everyone is safely back on board, follow the Man Overboard recovery steps to reconnect the affected device and restore normal monitoring.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Man Overboard is under active development. Alert timings and behaviour may be refined as beta testing continues. Always use Man Overboard alongside your established onboard MOB procedures and safety equipment.
