What you should see
The animation above shows a successful MOB activation:
The iPhone displays the MOB alert.
The DataHub Pro flashes red and white.
The Raymarine Axiom displays the MOB alert and position.
Your chartplotter may display MOB information differently, but by the end of this article you should be able to reproduce the same overall result.
Before you start
You need:
DataHub Pro powered and connected to NMEA 2000.
A valid GPS position available to DataHub Pro.
Your chartplotter or MFD connected to the same NMEA 2000 network.
Your boat instruments powered on.
In DataHub Pro, confirm:
GPS tracking is working.
NMEA2000 on CAN0 is enabled.
The correct GPS source is selected in NMEA > Advanced > N2K Filters if your network has more than one.
Test using the DataHub Pro MOB button
The quickest way to test the DataHub Pro-to-chartplotter connection is with the physical MOB button.
Lift the red rubber cap on the right-hand side of DataHub Pro and press the MOB button.
Lift the red rubber cover and press the MOB button to activate an MOB event.
You should see:
DataHub Pro indicate an active MOB event with red and white flashing LED lights.
Your chartplotter displays an MOB alert, position or waypoint.
Connected MOB phones or watches alert.
This confirms the GPS → DataHub Pro → NMEA 2000 → chartplotter path works.
The MOB button also works in an emergency
The physical MOB button is not only for testing. If you see somebody fall overboard who is not being monitored by the MOB app, open the red cap and press the MOB button.
This manually activates the MOB event and, with DataHub Pro, GPS and NMEA 2000 operating correctly, sends the MOB position to the chartplotter.
A monitored phone or watch is not required for manual activation.
Press the button again to deactivate the MOB alert on the DataHub Pro.
Test automatic MOB detection
Once the manual button test works, test the complete monitored-device workflow:
Connect the phone or watch to DataHub Pro Wi-Fi.
Turn Monitoring ON.
Disconnect the monitored device from DataHub Pro Wi-Fi.
Allow the warning sequence to progress to MOB activation.
Confirm the phone/watch, DataHub Pro and chartplotter all respond.
With the current configuration, the chartplotter MOB event is sent ~ 60 seconds after the monitored device is lost.
Exact timing is subject to change; update your DataHub Pro to the latest firmware to include any changes to best-practice timing.
This verifies the complete Monitored device → DataHub Pro → GPS → NMEA 2000 → chartplotter workflow.
If the chartplotter does not display the MOB
Check:
DataHub Pro is powered.
GPS position is valid.
DataHub Pro is connected to NMEA 2000.
NMEA2000 on CAN0 is selected as the NMEA Source on the DataHub Pro.
The chartplotter is on the same NMEA 2000 network.
The chartplotter is configured to receive and display MOB information.
Important Note: Chartplotters handle MOB information differently. Raymarine, B&G and Simrad MFDs have been tested and used during Man Overboard development.
Finish the test
After testing:
Recover or clear the MOB event.
Reconnect any monitored test device.
Turn Monitoring OFF if required.
Confirm the chartplotter clears the MOB event.
Check the DataHub Pro Status page.
Use FLUSH MOB if the DataHub Pro and monitored devices remain out of sync.
