The Iridium Mail App is an email service that works with the Iridium GO! developed and controlled by Iridium not PredictWind. You will notice on the App Store this app only has a 1.5 star rating which evidence of the customer experience. For this reason, here at PredictWind we have developed the PredictMail service, which allows you to use your existing favourite pop3 email client offshore. Unfortunately due to the ongoing bugs and support issues with the Iridium Mail App, we no longer support this App.

Iridium Mail Setup Instructions:

NOTE: The Iridium Mail App is no longer supported by PredictWind

This Iridium Mail App provides email access over the Iridium network using the Iridium GO! it does not work with the GO exec.

1) Download the ‘Iridium Mail App’

Download the Iridium Mail App from the App Store or Play Store

The Iridium Mail App is not available for a Computer, only a device either iOS or Android.

2) Register for an Iridium Email Account

Navigate to https://www.iridium.com/mailandweb/ URL to fill out the registration form, follow the instructions and register for a username and password. Select ‘Iridium Subscriber’ from the device selection drop-down menu in the registration form. Registration for an account is free and it is required to use the application.

Please note your username becomes your email address. ie if johnsmith is your username, your email address would be johnsmith@myiridium.net

The alternative username is required in case the initial username you request is not available.

Your password for the Iridium Mail App must be between 6-18 characters, upper and lower case letters are allowed, numbers are allowed, and only the following punctuation marks are allowed. , ? ! ; : - _ () {} [] “ ‘

Please be careful that you accurately record the password, as you will need it for setting up the Iridium Mail App.

The email field at the bottom is for Iridium to send to you confirmation of the registration process by email (please check spam/promotional folders if you do not receive the confirmation). The confirmation email is important and should be kept.

This email address should be your normal land-based personal address (Gmail/outlook/yahoo/etc).

The Iridium email address is not associated with your SIM card, so if you do get a new SIM card you do not need to register again. However if your account is inactive for 12 months the email address is removed from the Iridium email system. So you will need to register again if you have not used the service inside 12 months.

Note: All your emails are saved locally on the device, if you delete the App at any time you will lose the email data with it. These emails cannot be recovered.

3) Connect your iOS Device to the Iridium GO! WiFi

  • Flip-up the antenna on Iridium GO! to turn it on.

  • Wait for Iridium GO! to initialize and establish a connection with the Iridium network.

  • On your iOS device, go to the Wi-Fi setting and select ‘Iridium-xxxx’ network. Wait for your iPhone or iPad to connect to the Iridium GO! Wi-Fi network.

4) Iridium Mail App Set-Up

Open the Iridium Mail App. You will be asked to enter your full name, username, and password, used during the registration process. Leave the "Reply To" field blank. Now you are ready to send and receive email with your Iridium email address. This method is simple and recommended to minimize your email traffic.

Then the Iridium Mail App will guide you to configure the device connection type. Select ‘Iridium GO! for Mobile Devices’ as your connection type, then tap “Iridium Mail ” top left to return to the home screen.

5) Send/Receive Email using the Iridium Mail App

To draft emails, tap 'Mail' on the main menu and tap the 'New Mail' icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap 'To:' and enter the recipient's address. Tap 'Next' on your keypad to enter the Subject. Tap 'Next' on your keypad to enter the body of the email message. When the message is complete, tap 'To Outbox' in the top right corner. Repeat until all emails are complete.

Click the 'Send/Receive Mail icon' from the mail menu (not the outbox), it is the cloud icon at the bottom left corner of the screen. Select 'Get Mail' The session log window will appear. Wait for the session to complete and disconnect; select 'Done' to return to the Mail menu screen (as seen in the picture below).

Tip: Only select Get Mail when you see 4 or 5 bars of signal strength, other wise it will not work.

6) XWeb - viewing text based websites

This is no longer supported. We do not recommend trying.

Most websites are now running Https instead of Http, these changes have had implications for the usability of XWeb.

7) Twitter

Twitter is no longer supported.

8) Weather Forecast Service

This is a generic weather service with data from the NOAA GFS model. We recommend the PredictWind Offshore App Package for a detailed and accurate forecast.
