PredictWind's Tidal Current data is proprietary to PredictWind. PredictWind collaborates with a world-leading oceanographic company to develop the modelling, and PredictWind runs the model.

Resolution is provided at 100 metres, 400 metres, and 4 kilometres. Please see the world coverage map at predictwind.com/world-coverage

You can now see the current flow in incredible detail and accuracy, with a 400m resolution model within 90 km of the coast and a 4km resolution out to 600 km further offshore.

PredictCurrent Pro subscribers have access to Maps, including Current Maps. On the Map view, you can change the Map by selecting the drop-down icon top right.

The Current models are

  • Tidal and Ocean (Tidal Current and Mercator Ocean Current combined)

  • Mercator (Ocean Current)

  • RFOFS (Ocean Current)

  • The colour gradients show the significant current flows, the black arrows or streamlines (Display options) show the primary current direction.

  • By clicking on the current resolution button (Top right corner) you can select the model and resolution of the current map you want to view.

  • The higher the resolution, the more accuracy and detail of the forecast. For example 100m is more accurate than 400m.

  • You can also click on the map to get detailed current intensity for that point on the map in the pop up box.

  • Use the animation controls to play or pause the animation, or click on the timeline to jump to a forecast time. Use the zoom controls on the map or your mouse wheel, or the trackpad in your laptop to control your view.

The example below is a Current map.

Resolution is provided at 100 metres, 400 metres, and 4 kilometres. The Display can be changed by tapping the timeline slider or pressing the play arrow to watch a timeline animation really bring the current to life!
