Tidal and Ocean Current Maps are available on the PredictWind website, PredictWind App, and Offshore App.

We also have the PredictCurrent App for iPad and iPhone, which may be more suitable for you depending on your needs.

TIDAL AND OCEAN CURRENTS (Standard or Professional Subscription )

On the PredictWind Website, www.predictwind.com

Select the location you want to view the currents for.

Click Forecasts > Maps.

  • A pop-up box will allow you to select any map you wish, such as Wind, Gust, or Currents.

  • Select the Forecast Map you want to view ( eg, Current)

  • Select the Forecast Model you want to view (Tidal and Ocean for coastal currents or Mercator or RTOFS for Ocean Currents.)

  • Select the resolution you want to view (100m/400m/4km)

  • Select the display type you want (streamlines, wind barbs or wind arrows)

  • Once you have selected your option, click the X at the top of the pop-up box to view the chosen map fully.

Click here to view the Worldwide Coverage map for available models and resolutions.

There is also the option to have split screen to compare current models.

To see maps in split screen view:

  • Please click on Maps in the main menu on the left-hand side of the page.

  • Click on the white split-screen icon found top left of the screen [ l ]

  • A pop-up box on each side of the split screen will allow you to select any map variables you wish, so you have the chance to compare wind vs current

  • Once you have selected your option, click the X at the top of the pop-up box to fully view the selected map.

Please remember that the Mercator and RFOFS are Ocean Current Models so will not have data close to shore.

iOS and Android PredictWind App (note you will need the latest App, so make sure you have updated your version),

From the Main menu

Select the location you want to view the current from at the top of menu

Then click on Current Maps in Main menu,

Click on the Current Model in top right of screen to select model, resolution and display

CURRENT MAPS (Professional Subscription)

To see a Larger Area of Ocean Currents. (Next 7 days)

Run a Route, then select Currents and select one of the Ocean Current models (Mercator or RTOFS )

In the Offshore App, check the Ocean Data box on the download page, and select which GRIBS you wish to download. You will see both the Tidal and Ocean Currents under Ocean Data. The Computer version of the Offshore App has the Tidal GRIBs (Coming soon for Phones and Tablets)

Routing using Tidal and Ocean Currents ( Standard and Professional Subscription.)

Any weather route or departure plan calculation using either the Standard or Professional subscriptions will consider your choice of ocean current data, Tidal currents, and wave polars when calculating a route. However, only the Professional subscription will show you these details when viewing the results in the tables and along the routes.
