Satellite AIS targets are available in the Offshore App within a 300 nautical mile radius of your green Weather Routing start position.
To download Satellite AIS data, select the AIS checkbox, select Next, and download the data along with your Weather Routing, GRIBs and other selected forecast information.
Downloading Satellite AIS data into the Offshore App allows you to see vessels well beyond the range of conventional onboard AIS. This can provide valuable advance awareness of commercial vessels and fishing fleets along your route.
The below image shows a fishing fleet encountered mid-ocean during a passage from New Zealand to Fiji.
Select an AIS target to view additional vessel information. You can also toggle the AIS display on or off within the Forecast Options menu as required.
Satellite AIS is not a replacement for your onboard AIS transponder, but it is a valuable additional tool for improving your awareness of vessel traffic further along your route.
