Starlink provides a high-speed internet connection that can be used with the PredictWind Forecast Website, PredictWind App, and PredictWind Offshore App.
PredictWind Forecast Website and PredictWind App
You can use the PredictWind Forecast Website or PredictWind App over Starlink in the same way you would with a home Wi-Fi or 4G/5G cellular connection.
While your Starlink connection is available, you can access PredictWind forecasts, Weather Routing, maps, and other online features directly.
PredictWind Offshore App
The PredictWind Offshore App is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android and can also use your Starlink connection to download weather data.
The Offshore App allows you to select and download:
GRIB weather data
Weather Routes
Departure Plans
GMDSS forecasts
Other available offshore forecast data
Once downloaded, the weather data is stored locally on your device and can be viewed offline. This can be particularly useful if you turn Starlink off when it is not required to reduce power consumption or want greater control over your data usage.
The Offshore App also allows you to select the models, variables, forecast period, and geographic area you want to download, giving you additional control over the size of your downloads.
How to download using Starlink in the Offshore App
If you have previously used the Offshore App with an Iridium GO exec or Iridium GO!, make sure the download method is set correctly before downloading over Starlink.
Select Web as your download method.
If you are using a datahub or DataHub Pro you can remain connected to your DataHub Wi-Fi network while downloading, provided the DataHub has an internet connection through Starlink.
Which PredictWind App should I use with Starlink?
You can use either the PredictWind App or Offshore App with Starlink.
The PredictWind App provides direct online access to your forecasts while Starlink is connected. The Offshore App is useful when you want to download selected weather data and continue viewing it later without an active internet connection.
You can log in to the Offshore App using your existing PredictWind email/username and password. There is no need to create a separate account.
Some Offshore App features require a Standard or Professional Forecast Subscription. If you currently have a Free or Basic account, you can upgrade your existing account to access these features.
