PredictWind forecast data cannot be downloaded using a Garmin inReach.
Garmin inReach devices use the Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) service for satellite communications. This type of satellite connection does not support downloading PredictWind weather data.
As a result, a Garmin inReach cannot be used to download PredictWind features such as:
GRIB weather data
Weather Routing
Departure Planning
GMDSS text forecasts
Satellite Imagery
Can I use a Garmin inReach for PredictWind GPS Tracking?
Yes. If you use a Garmin inReach for GPS tracking, your position reports can be displayed on a PredictWind GPS Tracking page.
How can I download PredictWind weather data offshore?
If you need to download PredictWind weather data while outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, you will need a compatible satellite or internet connection. The Iridium GO! and Iridium GO exec are compatible with PredictWind and can be used offshore to access PredictWind weather data and services.
