If you leave your boat to go ashore and take your iPhone with you, your phone will lose its Wi-Fi connection to the DataHub once you move out of range. The Anchor Alert App does not send a notification to tell you that the Wi-Fi connection to the DataHub has been lost.
However, if your iPhone has a cellular internet connection, you can still receive Anchor Alert notifications for any alerts you have enabled, such as drag, swing, scope, wind speed, wind gust, wind direction, depth, or AIS alerts. Notifications are delivered to your iPhone via cellular data in the same way you would receive other app notifications, such as a WhatsApp message.
How can I check the connection to my DataHub?
When you reopen the Anchor Alert App, it will detect that your phone is no longer connected directly to the DataHub. The Wi-Fi radio waves in the top-left corner will display in red to indicate that the connection has been lost.
To check the latest information from your boat:
Go to Dashboard > N2K Data.
Check the large green REFRESH button. This updates automatically approximately every minute, but you can tap REFRESH and wait around five seconds to retrieve the latest information from the server.
Return to the Anchor Map screen to see your boat at its latest reported position.
Important
For remote monitoring and alerts to work while you are away from the boat, both your DataHub and your iPhone need an internet connection.
Before leaving the boat, make sure the DataHub’s internet source, such as Starlink, Peplink, a 4G/5G router, or Iridium GO! exec, remains powered on and connected. A solid orange light on the DataHub confirms that it is connected to the internet.
If using an Iridium GO! exec, make sure Internet > GO! exec > Polars/Anchor Alert via Iridium is enabled.
