Before you leave the boat, check these items to ensure you will receive alerts and N2K data updates from Anchor Alert:
The DataHub is powered on.
Boat instruments are powered on. Check that DataHub has GPS status Active in DataHub > NMEA > GPS (top menu).
DataHub : Fast alternating orange/green LEDs mean that the DataHub does not have a valid GPS position.
DataHub Pro: A blinking yellow LED means the DataHub Pro does not have a valid GPS position. For more, see DataHub Status Lights or DataHub Pro : Status Lights.
Check Anchor Alert on the Dashboard > N2K Data page to confirm the boat instruments and GPS data are being received.
Power on and connect the Starlink / Peplink / Iridium GO! exec or other 4G Internet connection. The GO! exec can be powered on in standby mode, ready to connect if an alert is generated onboard.
DataHub / DataHub Pro - At least one widget on the Services > Settings > Internet Status page is coloured green with Status: Active.
On the DataHub or DataHub Pro, look for a solid Orange LED. This indicates the device has Internet. For more, see DataHub Status Lights or DataHub Pro : Status Lights.
DataHub Pro - Backup Internet: The DataHub Pro LTE SIM is working on your PredictWind Plan and shows as green with Status: Active on the DataHub Pro > Services > Settings > Internet Status page.
Check the weather forecast so you know what alert settings are appropriate while you're off the boat, i.e. Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Current/Tide (Swing Alert).
Start Anchor Alert monitoring with appropriate alerts for your time off the boat, e.g. Drag, Swing, Depth, Wind Direction, Scope, etc.
Remember: Alerts cannot be changed once you leave the boat, so don't set alerts that will trigger under expected conditions.
If you've done all seven of these things, it is safe to leave the boat.
Bonus tip - how to simulate being off the boat: To check that you will receive remote updates when you leave the boat, if you are within 4G/5G coverage on a phone or cellular-enabled iPad, turn off Wi-Fi.
Wait 1-2 minutes, then open Anchor Alert > Dashboard > N2K Data and tap Refresh. You should see an updated GPS Date / time.
