Starlink: PredictWind app or website not working

How to troubleshoot PredictWind apps or website not working with Starlink

Written by Barry Heathwaite

You can use the PredictWind app and Forecast Website over Starlink. If other websites load but PredictWind does not, try the steps below.

Before you start

  • Connect your phone or tablet directly to your Starlink Wi-Fi and open the Starlink app. The screenshots below show a Starlink Mini.

1. Check for Starlink software updates

Make sure you are using the latest Starlink app. Open the app and check the main status screen for a software-update message. If an update is offered, follow the on-screen prompts to install it, then wait for Starlink to reconnect.

Starlink normally downloads software updates automatically. To view or change when Starlink installs them, open Settings > Starlink > Software Updates. This menu controls the automatic update window.

If no update is offered, continue to Step 1.

Step 1: Open Settings from the Starlink app home screen.

2. Check that content filtering is off

Open Settings > Router > Content filtering and select No Filtering. Save the change if prompted. If No Filtering is already selected, leave it as it is.

Content filtering can sometimes block legitimate websites.

Important: Selecting No Filtering turns off Starlink's malware and adult-content filtering for your network.

3. Open Custom DNS

Return to Settings > Router. Under Advanced, tap Custom DNS.

Steps 2 and 3: Check Content filtering, then open Custom DNS.

4. Enable Custom DNS and enter the addresses

Switch on Enable custom DNS, then enter:

Field

Address to enter

Primary

1.1.1.1

First Backup field

8.8.8.8

These are public DNS addresses provided by Cloudflare and Google, respectively.

Leave the two remaining Backup fields blank, then tap Save.

Step 4: Enable custom DNS, enter the Primary and Backup addresses, then tap Save.

Seeing “Required” under Primary? The grey example text is not an entered address.

Tap the Primary field and type 1.1.1.1 yourself. Also make sure you have entered 8.8.8.8 in the first Backup field.

Step 4 troubleshooting: The grey Primary address is a placeholder and the field still says Required.

5. Reboot the Starlink router

Return to Settings > Router. Under Reboot router, drag the slider to the right to reboot. Wait for the router to finish restarting.

Important: Use Reboot router, not Factory reset.

A factory reset removes your Wi-Fi name, password and other settings.

Step 5: Slide the Reboot router control to the right.

6. Reconnect to Starlink Wi-Fi and test PredictWind

  1. Reconnect your phone, tablet or computer to your Starlink Wi-Fi. Check that you are back on this network before testing.

  2. Close and reopen the PredictWind app, then try loading a forecast.

  3. To test the PredictWind Forecast Website, open it in your browser on a computer and reload the page.

Still not working?

Try PredictWind on mobile data or another Wi-Fi network, then contact PredictWind Support: support@predictwind.com.

Include your Starlink model, device type, a screenshot of any error, and whether PredictWind works on the other connection. Also, let us know whether other websites load over Starlink.
