Connecting your Starlink to the DataHub

There are two ways to connect your Starlink to the DataHub:

1) Connect your Starlink via Ethernet cable to the DataHub WAN port.

2) Connect your Starlink via Wi-Fi.

If you are planning to:

  • Connect Starlink only, and you have purchased the Starlink ethernet adaptor; we recommend you connect it via Ethernet cable to the DataHub WAN port. If you have not purchased the Starlink ethernet adaptor, please buy this or connect it via Wi-Fi.

  • Connect both a GO exec and a Starlink. We recommend you connect Starlink via Wi-Fi to DataHub and the GO exec via Ethernet to the DataHub WAN port.

  • Connect both an Iridium GO! and a Starlink. You can only connect the Iridium GO! via Wi-Fi to the DataHub, so we recommend you purchase the Starlink ethernet adaptor and connect Starlink via Ethernet cable to the DataHub WAN port.

Note: The DataHub will work with the Starlink Mini via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable. Starlink Mini includes an Ethernet adaptor.

Use the Wi-Fi option to connect Starlink to the DataHub

Important Note: These instructions and screenshots are based on updated DataHub firmware. If you still need to complete Step 1 of the DataHub setup, please do this first to update your DataHub Firmware.

  • We recommend you connect your laptop or desktop computer to the DataHub Wi-Fi network to complete this step. You could also use a large-screen tablet device. We do not recommend using a mobile device.

  • The DataHub Wi-Fi network will look like PW-Hub-XXX in your device's list of available Wi-Fi networks. Please select "Connect Automatically" if this option is available. On a Mac, you may need to click "Other Networks" to see the Wi-Fi network.

  • Open a Chrome or Safari browser, and type 10.10.10.1 in the URL bar.

  • Log in with the default username admin and password admin.

  • On the top menu, click WiFi.

  • Click the Enable button on the default landing page, Connect to Internet (2.4 GHz). This will trigger the page to reload.

  • Click the drop-down list beside Network (SSID) and select your Starlink Wi-Fi.

  • Type in your Wi-Fi password if you have set one.

  • Click the * star button to check it is correct.

  • Click the CONNECT button.

  • Please note you do not need to click SAVE & APPLY.

Important Note: Please wait up to one minute while the DataHub connects to your Wi-Fi. Once immediately connected, the page will refresh between Disconnected and Connected before completing the process. Please check the Status displays Connected to <YourWi-FiNetworkName> before you move on.

  • To check that you are connected to the Internet, on the top menu, click Internet Status.

  • Check that the WiFi Internet box is green and displays Status: Online.

Use the Ethernet option to connect Starlink to the DataHub

To connect your DataHub to the Starlink using an Ethernet cable:

  • Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port labelled WAN on the DataHub from your Starlink Internet Router Ethernet adaptor. The DataHub should now be automatically connected to Starlink.

Check that the DataHub has an Internet Connection via Ethernet cable

  • To check that the DataHub has an Internet connection, we recommend you connect your laptop or desktop computer to the DataHub Wi-Fi network to complete this step. You could also connect using an Ethernet cable from your device to the DataHub LAN port or a large-screen tablet device, e.g. iPad.

  • The DataHub Wi-Fi network. It will look like PW-Hub-XXX in the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device.

  • By default, the DataHub will present the WAN Interfaces landing page. To see this on a DataHub with older firmware, on the left menu, click Settings and on the top menu, click Internet Status.

Important Note: On older firmware, the interface wan box may take up to 2 minutes to update and turn green.

Enable the Starlink Quick-Start settings on the DataHub

With your DataHub connected to your Starlink, you can enable the Datathub's Starlink Quick-Start settings to activate your GPS Tracking, Boat Polars and AIS to be shared from the DataHub via Starlink. To enable this:

  • From the left menu, click Internet or Satellite (Firmware 4.11 or earlier)

  • Under Internet, click Starlink.

  • Tick Enable and each box below it to enable Tracking, Polars and AIS.

  • Click the SAVE & APPLY button.

  • Please wait up to one minute while the DataHub saves these settings; it may reload the page during this process.

In case you have any difficulty, please review this animated GIF video below, which demonstrates each step from start to finish. It runs for 1m 30s and will auto-repeat.

Move on to the Next Step

If you have not already done so and wish to, please connect your remaining Satellite devices using the articles below:

If you have already connected these, then congratulations! You have completed the DataHub Setup Guide.

DataHub Starlink Wi-Fi Troubleshooting

1. Split Starlink Wi-Fi into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Networks

If your DataHub has poor Wi-Fi speed (less than 60 - 70 Mbs) while connecting to Starlink or frequently disconnects from Starlink Wi-Fi, you can split the Wi-Fi in the Starlink router so it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi as a separate Wi-Fi name to connect to. This is more robust, and the DataHub will connect to the Starlink 2.4 GHz network.

Please take a look at the article below about selecting to split networks using the Starlink app before you connect the DataHub to Starlink Wi-Fi. The DataHub will only see the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi of the Starlink router:

Important Note: The Starlink Mini does not have an option in the Starlink app to split Wi-Fi networks.

2. Check for Wi-Fi Interference

Another option to fix DataHub and Starlink Wi-Fi connection issues is to check the Wi-Fi channels for interference:

  • Please check that all the Networks are NOT on the same Channel.

  • If multiple Wi-Fi Networks are on the same Channel on your boat or nearby, there will be collisions on the network, and the connection will be unreliable.

If this is the case, you must change the Wi-Fi Channel of the other devices onboard your boat, such as the Iridium GO!, GO exec, Peplink, or Raymarine MFD.

Please have a look at the manuals of your other devices for instructions on changing the channel, or see the articles below:

3. Try repositioning your DataHub or connect your Starlink via Ethernet to the DataHub

In case you are still unable to achieve a reliable connection between the DataHub and Starlink over Wi-Fi:

  1. Try repositioning your DataHub flat-mounted or closer to the Starlink Wi-Fi router. Flat mounting the DataHub will improve the strength and reach of its internal Wi-Fi antenna.

  2. As mentioned above, connect your Starlink Router to the DataHub using an Ethernet cable to the Datahub WAN port.

4. Try configuring a Static IP address on the DataHub for connecting to Starlink.

Sometimes, Starlink does not assign an IP address to the DataHub, so it may help to set one manually. For more information, see How to set a fixed DataHub WAN/WWAN IP Address.

5. Try activating the SwapWiFi profile DataHub Profile

If your DataHub cannot maintain a reliable 2.4 GHz connection to Starlink, an alternative with Starlink split networks is to switch the DataHub Wi-Fi used for tethering from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz.

A customer has reported success with this approach, so it is worth a try. For more, see DataHub how to use Profiles > Swap WiFi.
