My device cannot see the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi

I can't connect to the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide

Written by Matt Crockett

Important Note: If your DataHub Pro has been installed on your boat by a professional installer, please check if the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi network name has been changed from PW-Hub XXXX.

Have you just done a Firmware upgrade ? or Factory Reset ?

If you have just upgraded your DataHub Pro Firmware or done a factory reset, and it has been over 15 minutes. If you still do not see the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi to reconnect to, please power off and power on the DataHub Pro, then wait two minutes and try again. It's possible the Firmware upgrade didn't succeed, so please check the Firmware version and try again if it has failed.

Troubleshooting - I cannot connect to DataHub Pro Wi-Fi

1) Check Other Networks

If you're on a Mac, check under Other Networks in your Wi-Fi network list to connect to DataHub Pro Wi-Fi for the first time.

2) Reboot your device or turn off and on your device Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi chips scan periodically to find nearby Wi-Fi networks to connect to. This scanning takes time. Open the Wi-Fi connection menu on your device and wait a few minutes to see if the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi appears after several scans. It may take longer than you think.

If you still cannot find DataHub Pro Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi on your device, turn it back on again, then try again, still not seen, Power off/on your device.

3) Another Device/Computer

Try another device or computer, Does it see the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi ?

4) Power Off/On the DataHub Pro

Next Steps, if the above does not work:

Hardware reset of the DataHub Pro

A hardware reset of the DataHub Pro is in order if you have either lost the Wi-Fi password, admin password or are unable to otherwise access the web admin UI for the DataHub Pro.

To perform a hardware reset, locate the RESET button between the WAN Ethernet port and NMEA socket for the unit. You will find it through a small pinhole through the enclosure. Use a paper clip or other small object (do not use a sharp pin) to depress the button for 15 seconds while the unit is powered on. After 15 seconds, release the button. The unit will then perform a factory reset. Note that a quick push of the button will reboot the unit, but not reset it to its defaults. The button must be held for more than 10 seconds and less than 30 for the reset action to occur.

With a Computer/Laptop connected to the DataHub with an Ethernet cable.

Swap Wi-Fi - switch the DataHub Pro 2.4Ghz to be an access point and use the 5Ghz Wi-Fi to join other Wi-Fi networks

Some devices can't join to 5Ghz Wi-Fi, only 2.4Ghz. There are 2 Wi-Fi radios in the DataHub Pro, one is 2.4Ghz, and the other 5Ghz. Older devices, such as a chartplotter or printer may only have a 2.4Ghz radio.

There is an option to change the two Wi-Fi radios around, so the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz change roles.

By default, the 2.4Ghz connects your DataHub Pro to the Wi-Fi networks supplying internet at your location, and the 5Ghz is the access point that you use to connect your onboard devices like chart plotters to the DataHub Pro.

To change this around, you will need to:

  1. Go to the left menu Settings, then the top menu Profiles, then the section Swap Wi-Fi > Install.

  2. You will be disconnected from the DataHub Pro Wi-Fi while it changes the settings.

Please wait 30 seconds, then, on your device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, choose the PW-Hub WI-FI, and connect to it again.

You will be connected to the DataHub Pro with the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi instead.

Note, when you now want to connect the DataHub Pro to the internet Wi-Fi, you will be using the 5Ghz Wi-Fi, so what you are connecting to will need to be compatible with that also.

  3. You may need to update the software on your DataHub Pro if you don't see the Profiles tab.

To check you have the latest DataHub Pro Firmware, please see How to Update the Firmware.

If you need to revert, you can repeat the process to swap Wi-Fi back to the original settings. Connecting back to the DataHub Pro PW-Hub Wi-Fi after 30 seconds is important to lock in the changes. If it is longer than 90 seconds before you connect back to the DataHub Pro, the swap settings will be disregarded.
