Before you start

  • Do you have a PredictMail account?

If you do not have a PredictMail account, please set one up first in the Satellite Portal.

  • Have you set up PredictMail on the DataHub?

Please set up PredictMail on the DataHub before you set up PredictMail for Mac. This will ensure that after you reconnect your Mac to DataHub Wi-Fi, it will not report an error when it attempts to check PredictMail.

  • Connect to the Internet via your device's cellular data, home or another high-speed Wi-Fi, or a hot spot from another device. Disconnect from and do not use DataHub Wi-Fi during the PredictMail setup.

  • This guide has been written for AppleMail version 16. If you are using an older version of Mac OS, the steps, screens, and options may differ. Steps and screenshots for older versions are included where possible.

Add a PredictMail account to Apple Mail for Mac OS

  1. Open Mail on your Mac.

  2. If you already have an email account set up in Mail, the wizard will not appear, so you will need to click the Mail menu and select Add Account.

  3. Select Other Mail Account or @Mail Account and Continue.

  4. Type in your Name, PredictMail email address, and your PredictMail password. When you sign up for PredictMail, your account details are emailed to you.

  5. Click Sign In.

  6. Apple Mail will attempt to authenticate your account with IMAP and report an error.

  7. Change your Account Type to POP.

  8. Enter predictmail.com for the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers.

On older Mail versions, you may also need to reenter your PredictMail email address as the username and your password.

  9. Click Sign In.

  10. Your mail will validate, finish the configuration, and download any emails in your PredictMail inbox.

Important Apple Mail Mac Advanced Settings

After setup, important additional account configuration is required in Apple Mail Mac to manage deleted mail and prevent connection errors while connected to DataHub Wi-Fi.

By default, Apple Mail will not remove deleted mail from the server when it is deleted in the app. This means when you switch between Wi-Fi networks or cellular and DataHub Wi-FI, mail you have already deleted may be downloaded again.

Apple Mail Mac can be configured to delete mail from the server When removed from Inbox. This deletes mail from either the PredictMail mail server or DataHub the next time you check the mail. Please do this immediately after deleting mail by clicking on the Get new mail icon (Shift-Cmd ⌘N) to sync the mail again.

If you still find deleted mail reappears in your Inbox after you've deleted it and synced, this means either it was downloaded from the Internet directly and then deleted when your device was connected to DataHub Wi-Fi, or vice versa. When this happens, delete the message and swipe down again to delete it where it is stored.

To correctly configure your Apple Mail Mac settings to manage deleted mail and prevent connection errors:

  1. Click the Mail menu and select Settings/Preferences.

  2. Click Accounts, PredictMail.

  3. On the Account Information tab, tick the checkbox Remove copy from server after retrieving a message and set it to When removed from Inbox.

  4. Click the Server Settings tab.

  5. Click to un-tick: Automatically manage connection settings for POP and SMTP.

This prevents Mail from displaying the authentication settings again by Mail when it is connected to DataHub Wi-Fi.

Congratulations! You have now set up Mac Mail.

If you have completed DataHub setup and Step 1 - Setup PredictMail on the DataHub, then to use Mail with your DataHub, connect it to DataHub Wi-Fi.
