You can now get mobile alerts and emails for all extreme weather forecasts from the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Keep safe on the water by turning on Extreme Weather Alerts for any of your saved locations in your PredictWind Forecast Alerts.
What are GMDSS forecasts?
GMDSS forecasts are written text forecasts prepared by meteorologists within each region. We then collect every forecast worldwide and plot each weather system and warning region accurately on the map, giving you a world-first, global overview of the GMDSS forecast.

Important Notes
GMDSS Text and Graphical Forecasts are available for Basic, Standard and Pro users in the PredictWind App and Forecast Website.
GMDSS Text Forecasts are available for all users in the Offshore App.
GMDSS Graphical Forecasts require a Standard or Professional subscription in the Offshore App.
How to turn on Extreme Weather Alerts in the PredictWind App
To turn on Extreme Weather Alerts in the PredictWind App:
Make sure your PredictWind App is updated to version 5.8.0 or later.
Check the app version at the bottom right corner of the main menu and see this FAQ for how to update an app for iOS and Android.Login to the PredictWind App (Apple or Android).
At the top of the main menu, select the Location you want to turn on extreme weather alerts for.
In the main menu under the Tools section, select Forecast Alerts.
Select Extreme Weather (top right), then select to enable Notifications to my Phone or Email Notifications.
Select Save Changes.
When will I receive Extreme Weather Alerts?
Extreme weather alerts are sent to your phone or email based on your chosen location. You will receive a notification whenever the GMDSS forecast for your area includes a new alert or an update to an existing alert from a regional meteorology office.
The frequency of updates depends on the weather event and your location, and you may receive notifications every few hours. Each meteorology office follows its own update schedule, and multiple offices may issue updates for the same event.
How can I view Extreme Weather Alert details?
To view the details of an Extreme Weather alert:
Tap on the push notification or the View Forecast button in the alert email.
Tap Show to open the PredictWind App > GMDSS Map page.
Tap on the GMDSS alert icon to read the GMDSS alert text details, including the last update time.

Extreme Weather alerts are sent for all available GMDSS event types, including:

Ridges
Front
Tropical Depression
Tropical Storm
Tropical Cyclone
