Download the Anchor Alert App

The Anchor Alert App is now available for iOS devices only here in the App Store. There are two levels of subscriptions for the Anchor Alert App:

Anchor Alert Free — Use the App and your phone's GPS to monitor your boat at anchor while onboard by setting an anchor position and an alert radius.

Anchor Alert Pro — Monitor your anchor and boat position while ashore or onboard. Receive real-time alerts and live updates about your anchor and boat position, depth and wind based on the GPS data from your boat's instruments via NMEA2000/N2K. Customize forecast alerts so you know exactly what weather is headed your way.

You will need the following:

The Anchor Alert App is best set up in a location with high-speed Internet e.g. Starlink or 4G/5G cellular. It requires the following:

  • A cell phone or tablet.

  • The Anchor Alert App with a Pro subscription. This can be purchased in-app.

  • A PredictWind Account. You can create one in-app or here.

  • A PredictWind DataHub connected to your boat's NMEA2000 / N2K network.

  • Your boat's instruments connected to the N2K network and powered on GPS, Wind, and Depth (if you have them).

  • The DataHub requires an Internet connection i.e. Starlink, high-speed Wi-Fi, cellular or Iridium GO exec.

  • For remote monitoring, your Anchor App device requires an active internet connection.

  • DataHub Firmware version 4.22 or later. To update your DataHub Firmware, please read this article.

Anchor Alert App iPhone / iPad setup

  1. Upon launching the Anchor Alert App, tap Allow so the App can send immediate Notifications when alerts are triggered.

  2. Tap Accept, then follow the prompts to set permissions for Camera and Location.

Important Note: Location access is required to use the Anchor Alert App on your iPhone or GPS-enabled iPad. Set Precise Location: On and tap Allow While Using App. When prompted later, allow the App to change the location permissions to Always Allow. The App only tracks your position when it is activated.

  3. After viewing the App overview slides, log in to your existing PredictWind Forecast Account or sign up to create one.

  4. Upon login, if you are connected to DataHub Wi-Fi, tap Allow for the Anchor Alert to find and connect to the DataHub. If you are not on DataHub Wi-Fi, this permission will be requested later when you connect to it on the Map page.

Local Network must be enabled for the App to connect to the DataHub. It can also be viewed or set in your iOS device Settings > Anchor Alert.

  5. A prompt will offer you a trial of Anchor Alert Pro so you can use it immediately. If skipped, this can also be activated later when prompted in the App or by tapping on the top right of the screen Settings Cog > Manage Subscription > Start Trial.

  6. Tap Start Set Up. There are two setup options:

    1. Simple - set your preferred measurement units (metric or imperial), boat length and distance from the bow roller to the GPS.

    2. Advanced (recommended) - includes additional settings:

      • Distance from the centre of the boat to the GPS.

      • Vertical distance from the bow roller to the depth sensor, if you have one.

      • Anchor drag tolerance.

Note: You can change your boat setup preference (Simple/Advanced) by tapping the top right of the screen Settings Wheel > Anchor Set Preference or adjust the boat setup parameters by tapping Settings Wheel > Boat Setup.

Anchor Alert App Pro DataHub Setup

There are two steps to set up your DataHub for the Anchor Alert App:

1. Connect the DataHub to your NMEA2000 (N2K) network

  1. Connect your NMEA2000 (N2K) network to the DataHub N2K port.

  2. Connect your laptop or desktop device to DataHub Wi-Fi.

  3. Open a Chrome or Safari browser and login to the DataHub on 10.10.10.1 with the username admin and password admin.

  4. Click on Services > NMEA, set DataHub NMEA source to NMEA2000 on CAN0 and click SAVE & APPLY.

2. Configure DataHub N2K Filters

If you have multiple devices on your N2K network outputting data for GPS position, heading, depth or wind it is strongly recommended to use DataHub N2K filters to ensure the Anchor App uses the best available instrument data on your boat.

  1. On the DataHub NMEA Setting page, click on Advanced.

  2. Tick the checkbox to Enable N2K filters.

  3. Click the drop-down boxes and select the correct GPS address, Heading, Depth and Wind sensors for the DataHub. Leave the drop-down box blank to use all available sensors.

  4. Click SAVE & APPLY.

Congratulations! Your Anchor Alert App is set up and ready to use with the DataHub. For next steps, please see these articles to configure the alerts set and start an alert session:
