Before you start

Now you have PredictMail set up on your DataHub and your device; it is time to test PredictMail works from start to finish each way your device could be connected and an email received.

Important Note: Before heading offshore with your GO! or GO exec you must complete Steps 3 and 4 to fully test your PredictMail setup.

For this step, while testing, we highly recommend you have all of the following:

  • Access to high-speed Internet e.g. cellular data or Wi-Fi.

  • An alternative email address. We recommend using your regular email address.

  • Your DataHub, powered on.

  • Your GO! or GO exec devices, fully charged, powered on and with the external antenna connected if you have one.

  • A USB charging cable, if you plan to use your mobile to provide Internet to the DataHub via a USB tether.

  • If you have set up PredictMail on your mobile device and plan to test it in this step, it is also helpful to have a laptop or large-screen tablet for logging into the DataHub.

Each stage of this testing will validate that your PredictMail set-up works in a slightly more complex configuration. By working through these tests methodically, if you encounter an issue, isolating and resolving it will be easier.

A) Send and Receive PredictMail without the Datahub

This stage can be done anywhere you can access high-speed Wi-Fi or cellular data using any single device.

Sending Emails

  • Connect your PredictMail device to high-speed Wi-Fi Internet or cellular data.

  • Open the Email Client your PredictMail account has been added to.

  • Create a new email.

  • Enter your alternative email address as the recipient in the "To" address.

  • Add a subject line and text to the email body.

  • Click or tap to send.

  • Wait 5-10 seconds until you are sure it has been sent; manually send/receive or sync. On an iPad, you may need to tap, hold and drag down the touchscreen.

  • Wait 1-2 minutes then check the inbox for your alternative email address.

If sent successfully, the test email will be received to your alternative email address in a minute or two. If you do not receive it:

  • Manually sync the client or close/reopen the app, allowing it time to sync upon load.

  • Check your Spam folder, Clutter or Other inbox view.

  • If you have a server connection error on Wi-Fi, try cellular data.

  • If you have tried Wi-Fi and cellular, and still cannot send your test email, please check the PredictMail client setup details are correct.

Receiving Emails

  • Open the email you've received to your alternative email address.

  • Reply to the email and add some new text in the body of the reply.

  • Click or tap to send.

  • Wait 5-10 seconds until you are sure it has been sent, or manually send/receive.

  • Open your PredictMail account inbox and wait for a minute or two for the email to arrive. You may need to manually send/receive or sync your PredictMail email client.

You should receive the test email to PredictMail within a minute or two. If you do not receive it:

  • Manually sync the client or close/reopen the app, allowing it time to sync upon load.

  • Check your Spam folder, Clutter or Other inbox view.

  • If you have a server connection error on Wi-Fi, try cellular data.

  • If you have tried Wi-Fi and cellular, and still cannot receive your test email, please check the PredictMail client incoming mail server settings are correct/

If you successfully receive the reply, then you can send and receive emails without the DataHub and are ready to move on to the next step.

B) Send and Receive PredictMail with the Datahub using a Wi-Fi or a Cellular connection

This stage can also be done anywhere you can access high-speed Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. If you have set up PredictMail on your mobile device, enable Flight Mode and connect it to DataHub Wi-Fi before continuing. It is also helpful to have a separate laptop or tablet device for checking and using the DataHub as you test.

Sending Emails

  • Connect to the DataHub via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable, then open a Chrome or Safari browser and type 10.10.10.1 in the URL bar.

  • Log in with the default username admin and password admin.

  • Connect your DataHub to the Internet via Wi-Fi or a USB-tethered hotspot.

  • Check the Internet Status page to see if your DataHub is online. At least one box on this WAN interfaces page must be green and display Status: Online.

  • Open the Email client that your PredictMail account has been added to.

  • Enter your alternative email address as the recipient in the "To" address.

  • Add a subject line.

  • Add text to the email body.

  • Click or tap to send.

  • Wait 5-10 seconds until you are sure it has been sent, or manually send/receive.

By default, with the latest Firmware, via high-speed Wi-Fi or cellular, the DataHub will immediately send any new emails it receives from your email client. Please allow a few minutes for it to do this and be received at your alternative email address. If you don't receive it, manually sync or send/receive the email client and check your Spam, Clutter, or Other Inbox views. When you have received it, you are ready to test receiving emails.

If you're unsure whether the DataHub has sent your PredictMail message, see this article: How to see if a message has been sent from the DataHub Outbox.

Receiving Emails

  1. With the test email you have sent to your alternative email address, reply to the email, enter some text in the body of the reply and click send.

  2. Depending on your PredictMail Connection Policy, you can either wait until the next scheduled tracking/polling interval or prompt PredictMail to connect by clicking the green CONNECT button on the top menu Connection page.

When connected, your DataHub will download all pending inbound emails to your Datahub Inbox and you will see this in the log lines appearing below the connection.

  3. When your email has been downloaded, on the top menu, click Inbox.

  4. Check if the DataHub is displaying your new message in the Inbox.

If you see your new message waiting to be collected in the DataHub Local Inbox, open your PredictMail email client and manually click sync or send/receive to download the message or wait until it checks your email again.

  5. If you successfully receive the reply, then you can send and receive emails with the DataHub and are ready to move on to the next step.

Continue to Step 4

When you have successfully tested sending and receiving emails on your device through the internet directly, and through the DataHub connected to high-speed Internet, you are ready to move on to Step 4: Send and Receive PredictMail on an Iridium Connection with GPS tracking.
