Connection Policy - How the DataHub send and receives email
As your device is connected to the DataHub, the email is sent to the DataHub and stored temporarily in the DataHub's Outbox until it connects to the PredictMail servers on the Internet, based on its connection policy, to send it.
Every time the Datahub makes a PredictMail Connection, all emails in the DataHub Outbox will be sent, and any incoming emails sent to your PredictMail account will be downloaded to the DataHub Inbox. The Connection Policy your DataHub is configured with will determine when a PredictMail connection is made.
To check your Connection Policy:
Click on PredictMail
Click Connection
Check what option is selected in the Policy setting.
Is it important you understand how the Connection Policies for sending and receiving email. Please review the table below for a brief description of the options.
Connection Policy | Description |
Immediately on sending mail
(Default setting) | Every time you send an email, a PredictMail connection will be made. You'll need to send an email or open a connection manually to receive emails. |
On tracking/polling interval
(Only visible and activated if PredictMail via Iridium and Poll on Tracking are selected during Iridium GO! or GO exec Quick Start) | A PredictMail Connection will be made each time your DataHub connects to report your position over the Wi-Fi, USB-tethered or Ethernet WAN to the Internet. The DataHub will fail to connect via your GO! or GO exec if a lower-cost connection is unavailable. |
On scheduled polling interval | A PredictMail Connection will be made at the specified polling interval, even if you have not sent any emails. To receive emails, wait until the next automatic connection for any incoming emails to be downloaded. |
Manually start/stop the transfer from the tools menu. | A connection will only be made when you click the green CONNECT button to send/receive. |
If your policy is set to Immediately on sending mail, then check the inbox for your alternative email address and you should receive the test email within 1-2 minutes of the connection being completed. If you don't receive it, manually send/receive, then check your Spam, Clutter or Other inbox view.
If, however, you have set up a GO! or GO exec using the Quick Start pages, and enabled PredictMail via Iridium and Poll on Tracking, then the DataHub will have set your transport to Least Cost (NET failover to GO!) and your policy to On tracking/polling interval. This will have queued your message in the Outbox to wait until it next connects to send your next position report.
