Please follow these steps to check your email setup

To make sure emails are working, we suggest you have an alternative email address that you can use to send emails to/from.

Step 1: Send and Receive without the Datahub

Sending Emails

  1. Make sure your device is NOT connected to the Datahub; you should be using either regular WiFi or cellular data from your mobile network provider.

  2. Open the Mail Client that your PredictMail account has been added to.

  3. Create a new email.

Enter the alternative email in the "To" address

    Add a subject

Add some text to the body of the email

  4. Click send

  5. Now check the inbox for your alternative email address you should receive the test email within a minute. If you don't receive it, check your spam folder. If there's nothing in spam, then you may need to double-check the set-up configuration.

Receiving Emails

  1. Once you've received the test email to your alternative email address, reply to the email, enter some text in the body of the reply and click send.

  2. Go to your PredictMail account inbox and wait for the email to arrive. You may need to do a send/receive or refresh the inbox. If nothing arrives, make sure you have set up the incoming mail server settings correctly.

If you successfully receive the reply, then you can send and receive emails without the DataHub and are ready to move on to the next step.

Step 2: Send and Receive with the Datahub using a WiFi or Cellular connection

Sending Emails

  1. Make sure your device IS connected to the Datahub Wifi.

  2. Your DataHub must have internet access, either USB/WIFI tethering to a FIBRE or LTE connection.

  3. Open the Mail Client that your PredictMail account has been added to.

  4. Create a new email.

Enter the alternative email in the "To" address

    Add a subject

Add some text to the body of the email

  5. Click send. Since your device is connected to the DataHub, the email is sent to the Datahub and stored in the Datahub's outbox. The Datahub will open a connection to the PredictMail Server based on its connection policy. The email will only be received at the "To" email address once the connection has been completed. (via FIBRE or LTE, this should be very fast)

  6. Now check the inbox for your alternative email address. You should receive the test email as soon as the connection is completed. If you don't receive it, check your spam folder.

Receiving Emails

Every time the Datahub makes a PredictMail Connection, all emails in the DataHub Outbox will be sent, and any incoming emails (sent to your PredictMail account) will be downloaded to the Datahub Inbox. The Connection Policy your DataHub is configured with will decide when a PredictMail connection is made.

Is it important you understand how the Connection Policies work when it comes to Receiving Emails. See the table below for a brief description of the options.

Policy

Description

Immediately on sending mail

Every time you send an email, a PredictMail connection will be made. You'll need to send an email or open a connection manually to receive emails.

On scheduled polling interval

A PredictMail Connection will be made every so often at the specified polling interval (even if you have not sent any emails). To receive emails, just wait till the next automatic connection, and incoming emails will be downloaded.

Manually start/stop the transfer from the tools menu.

A connection will only be made if you use the manual send/receive connect button. Do a manual connection to receive incoming emails.

  1. Once you've received the test email to your alternative email address, reply to the email, enter some text in the body of the reply and click send.

  2. Depending on your Connection Policy, this may cause a PredictMail Connection to happen. This will download all Incoming emails to your Datahub Inbox.

  3. Go to your PredictMail account inbox and wait for the emails to be transferred from the Datahub Inbox. You may need to do a send/receive or refresh the inbox.

If you successfully received the reply, then you can send and receive emails with the DataHub and are ready to move on to the next step.

Step 3: Send and Receive emails with the Datahub using an Iridium GO exec! /Iridium GO!

These instructions will explain how to send and receive emails using the Datahub with Iridium GO! exec or Iridium GO!.

We will first try an outgoing and incoming email so that you understand the process better. The End Goal is to bundle PredictMail connections with GPS tracking as it saves data in the long term, but for the purpose of learning how PredictMail works, these instructions will explain how to do a PredictMail connection on its own.

Skip straight to the End Goal, Bundling PredictMail & GPS Tracking.

I have an Iridium GO! (click the arrow to see instructions)

Sending Emails using the GO

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the Datahub. You should have the Iridium GO! connected to the DataHub as the Wi-Fi Internet Source. For the purposes of this test, remove/ forget all other internet sources from the Datahub, so it only has the GO! This is to ensure the DataHub dials a GO connection rather than using the least-cost internet option.

  2. Connect to the DataHub dashboard at 10.10.10.1 in a browser.

  3. Once logged in > From the Main Menu > Select the Satellite section on the left, and select Iridium GO!

  4. Click Enable > then Click PredictMail via Iridium > Save & Apply the Changes.

  5. Open the Mail Client that your PredictMail account has been added to.

  6. Create a new email.

Enter the alternative email in the "To" address

    Add a subject

Add some text to the body of the email

  7. Click send.

Since your device is connected to the DataHub, the email is sent to the Datahub and stored in the Datahub's outbox. The Datahub will open a connection to the PredictMail Server based on its connection policy. The email will only be received at the "To" email address once the connection has been completed. This will take longer than with normal internet, as the GO! needs to dial a connection before it can transfer emails. The download/upload speed of the iridium GO! is also much slower than normal internet.

  8. Now check the inbox for your alternative email address (On a separate device not connected to the DataHub). You should receive the test email as soon as the connection is completed. If you don't receive it, check your spam folder.

I have an Iridium GO exec! (click the arrow to see instructions)

Sending Emails Using the GO exec

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the Datahub. You should have the Iridium GO exec connected to the DataHub by Ethernet Cable or as the Wi-Fi Internet Source. For the purposes of this test, remove/ forget all other internet sources from the Datahub, so it only has the exec. This is to ensure the datahub dials an exec connection rather than using the least cost internet option.

  2. Connect to the Datahub dashboard at 10.10.10.1 in a browser.

  3. Once logged in > From the Main Menu > Select the Satellite section on the left, and select Iridium GO! exec.

  4. Click Enable, then Click PredictMail via Iridium. Save & Apply the Changes.

  5. Open the Mail Client that your PredictMail account has been added to.

  6. Create a new email.

Enter the alternative email in the "To" address

    Add a subject

Add some text to the body of the email

  7. Click send

Since your device is connected to the DataHub, the email is sent to the Datahub and stored in the Datahub's outbox. The Datahub will open a connection to the PredictMail Server based on its connection policy. The email will only be received at the "To" email address once the connection has been completed. This may take longer than normal internet as the exec needs to dial a connection before it can transfer emails.

  8. Now check the inbox for your alternative email address (On a separate device not connected to the DataHub). You should receive the test email as soon as the connection is completed. If you don't receive it, check your spam folder.

Receiving Emails

  1. Once you've received the test email to your alternative email address, reply to the email, enter some text in the body of the reply and click send.

  2. Depending on your Connection Policy, cause a PredictMail Connection to happen. This will download all Incoming emails to your Datahub Inbox.

  3. Go to your PredictMail account inbox and wait for the emails to be transferred from the Datahub Inbox. You may need to do a send/receive or refresh the PredictMail Inbox.

If you successfully received the reply, then you can send and receive emails with the DataHub using your Iridium device.
