DataHub Firmware update

It is essential to update your DataHub firmware when you first set it up and to check for updates from time to time. Firmware 4.52 introduced important security changes, including a stronger admin password policy and changes to persistent Remote Access over T-Mobile cellular connections.

Important: older firmware requires two update stages

If your DataHub is running firmware older than 4.52, update it in two stages. First install 4.52, which includes the security changes described below. Once the DataHub has restarted and finished loading, check for updates again and install the next version offered. Repeat the check and update until the Software Update page confirms the system is up to date.

If your DataHub is already on 4.52 or later, skip the first stage and check for the next available update.

If version 4.52 is not offered on the normal Software Update screen for an older unit, open Settings > Software Update > Alternate, select 4.52, and install it. After the unit restarts, return to the regular Software Update screen and click Check again.

Important Note: The DataHub must maintain power during a Firmware update. If the DataHub loses power during the update, it will be damaged beyond repair.

DataHub - How to update the Firmware Video

From 2:12 mins onwards, this DataHub Set-up Quick start video steps through how to connect to DataHub Wi-Fi, connect the DataHub to the Internet and update the Firmware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pHBD_A9z3Q

Get ready to connect to the DataHub

  • The DataHub will be offline when you first connect to it. Therefore, we recommend you either print the Step 1 help articles first or have it available on another device so you can continue to read.

  • Plug the DataHub into the AC power supply with the power cord provided.

  • A blue Power LED status light will illuminate when the unit is correctly powered on.

  • We recommend connecting your laptop, computer or large-screen tablet device to the DataHub Wi-Fi.

    We do not recommend using a mobile device for this step;

  • The DataHub Wi-Fi network will look like PW-Hub-XXXX in the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Please select "Connect Automatically" if this option is available. On a Mac, you may need to click "Other Networks" to see the Wi-Fi network.

  • Open a Chrome or Safari browser, and type 10.10.10.1 in the URL bar.

Important Note: 10.10.10.1 is not an Internet address; it is only available when your device is connected to the DataHub.

  • Log in with the default username admin and password admin.

    Change the default DataHub password

The default password is widely known. Anyone who can connect to the DataHub and knows the default password could access its settings and connected services, including your Starlink connection. Change it as soon as you log in, and before enabling Remote Access.

Firmware 4.52 and later requires a password with at least 8 characters, including one capital letter, one number, and one special character. The new admin password is also used as the superadmin password. For more information, see DataHub password requirements.

    1. In the DataHub interface, open System > Administration from the left-hand menu.

    2. Under Router Password, enter your new password, then enter it again to confirm.

    3. Click Save & Apply. Use the new password next time you log in. If an app has saved the DataHub login, update the saved password there too.

  • The main landing page will look like this:

  • The firmware version in the bottom right corner of the page will display as HUB-32m V3.XX or similar.

Firmware Update Steps

To update the Firmware, the DataHub must connect to high-speed Internet. You can do this by using your phone to provide a USB-tethered Internet connection or by connecting the DataHub Wi-Fi to your home or other high-speed internet.

Important Note: Please do not use the GO exec or Iridium GO! for this.

Option 1) Connect your DataHub to the High Speed Internet by Wi-Fi or Ethernet Cable

Please try either of these methods:

Option 2) Use your iPhone or Android to USB tether a hotspot to the DataHub

One way to connect your DataHub to the Internet is by connecting your iPhone or Android phone with your USB charging cable to tether it and provide a hotspot for your DataHub.

Important Note: The iPhone or Android device used to provide a USB tether for the Internet with the DataHub cannot be the same device you use to log in to the DataHub.

Now you are ready to Update the DataHub Firmware

After you have connected the DataHub to the Internet, complete the following steps.

  • From the left menu, under the Services heading, click Settings.

  • On the top menu on the right-hand side, click Software Update.

  • Click CHECK, then Download.

  • Please be patient for the download process to start and complete. If the download fails, please retry. If you have difficulty downloading the update please use a desktop or laptop device or connect the DataHub to the Internet a different way, e.g. Wi-Fi.

  • This page will be shown as the Firmware is being downloaded.

  • Click Confirm.

  • The Firmware update takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Note: You will be disconnected from Wi-Fi during the update while it reboots. Before checking update status, please ensure you reconnect to the DataHub Wi-Fi.

  • The page will say Upgrade in Progress.

  • The Firmware update is complete once the PW-Hub-XXXX Wi-Fi is again available to reconnect your device.

Important Note: After a Firmware update, please allow the DataHub 15-20 minutes to fully unpack the Firmware, load it into the Flash memory, and start up all the DataHub programs Any changes made to DataHub settings during this time will be only saved temporarily into RAM. Clicking the Save & Apply button will only work as usual after 15-20 minutes.

  • Please reconnect the device to the DataHub Wi-Fi

  • When you have updated the Firmware successfully and press CHECK on the Software Updates page, if you see the message "Your system is up to date - HUB-32m-vX.XX", then congratulations! Your DataHub Firmware is up to date.
